FAQ NAV 300

NAV300
Answers to many questions are found on our website. Here are links to some of the most commonly requ
Entering Navigation Why can't I find my address in the software on my NAV300 when I enter my city?

The map data on your NAV300 uses geographical definitions for addresses, which may differ from post office address. Inconsistencies in this area are rare but they do occur. In many cases, the street address may be found by using a neighboring city. You may also find it by using a zip code instead of the city.

Why am I unable to select Alaska or Hawaii in the region field of the address screen on my NAV300 unit?

Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico are all in separate maps in your NAV300 unit. You must have the appropriate map selected for any of these regions in the address. To change the map, select map from the main menu.

If I'm having trouble finding a street on my NAV300 unit how should I proceed?

(Examples: W Main St or N Park Rd) To make street input easier on your NAV300, try entering only the "basename" portion of the street. For example "Main" instead of W Main Street or "Park" instead of N Park Rd. The software will prompt the user for the correct street.

When calculating a route to a POI, why does the device tell me the destination is in a restricted area?

Some POI destinations are physically located within a pedestrian-only zone in the map database.  This includes large buildings where the POI is at the center of the building (shopping malls, sports arenas, etc.). The directions given will take the user to the requested location. Please follow all traffic laws in your area and never drive into a pedestrian zone or other area prohibited for use in a vehicle.

Why does the software on my NAV300 unit add a zip code when I enter a city into the address field? After I finish entering the rest of the address (street name and house number), the Zip code changes.

When a city is entered in your NAV300 unit without a zip code, the software shows the zip code specified for the city center - 90012 is used for Los Angeles. Once the complete address is known, the accurate zip code for that particular address will be shown - 90028 for the intersection of Hollywood and Vine in Los Angeles.
Why doesn't my NAV300 show a city when I enter a zip code?

In many cases, a zip code may include streets that fall in more than one city. To avoid confusion with listing multiple cities, only the zip code is shown.
How is the destination time determined on my NAV300 unit?

Arrival times on your NAV300 unit are calculated based on data from the map. These are typically based on speed limits, road classifications, etc. Factors such as traffic flow, weather, road conditions, etc. cannot be accounted for and will influence the time to destination. The optional Traffic Message Channel (TMC) device will provide a more accurate estimate.
How does the NAV300 calculate an Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA)?

Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) values are based on time zone settings specified in the software. Verify that you have set the correct time zone by going to settings -> Time Zone. ETA times are calculated based on data from the map. These are typically based on speed limits, road classifications, etc. Factors such as traffic flow, weather, road conditions, etc. cannot be accounted for and will influence the time to destination. The optional Traffic Message Channel (TMC) device will provide a more accurate estimate.

FAQ REAL- TIME TRAFFIC KIT

Real-Time Traffic Kit
Answers to many questions are found on our website. Here are links to some of the most commonly requested items. Frequently Asked QuestionsGeneral Information Why don't I get traffic information for anything except major highways, is there something wrong with my unit or my service subcription?

No, there is nothing wrong with your unit or service. The current database on which the service operates is limited to major limited access roadways.

While trying to route me around an accident, Why did my navigation unit instruct me to use an exit which was closed for construction?

The traffic database on which the service operates is lilmited to major limited access roadways and does not include on ramps or exits. This data is slated to become available beginning with the fall 2007 map. With that map, on ramp and exit data will only be available in very large metropolitan areas such as New York City and Los Angeles.

Why did my navigation unit with traffic route me onto a service road when the freeway was slowed by an accident. The service road was as slow or slower than the freeway, do I have an incorrect setting?

No, you don't have an incorrect setting. The database that the traffic service operates on is limited to major limited access roadways and has to assume that surface roadways are opn and moving better than the blocked major roadway.
